Ad serving priority

Publishers can monetize their content by running both direct sold ads as well as enabling backfill in their Apple News channel content. To help maximize monetization, we’ve created the following order for ads to appear from highest to lowest priority.

  • Priority 1: Publisher Direct
    Sold Campaigns

Ads that are sold directly by the publisher.

  • Priority 2: Reseller Backfill Campaigns

Ads that Apple or its reseller has sold and placed into publisher content if the publisher has enabled backfill.

  • Priority 3: Publisher House Campaigns

Ads that a publisher is using to promote their own content.

  • Priority 4: Apple House Campaigns

Ads that Apple is using to promote Apple products, services, and non-profit partnerships (for example, an iOS update message, an Apple Music promotion, or a PSA). These campaigns serve in the last priority.

Note that if you have Google Ad Manager enabled on Workbench, you should refer to Integrate Workbench and Google Ad Manager 360 for details on ad serving priority.
